The Dallas Fire Fighters Association has
worked hard for the last year to educate elected officials
about the importance of SCBAs for firefighters. During this
time, the message was delivered that a wholesale replacement
of the inventory was necessary, and not a piece meal program
over several years that fire administration was recommending.
The FireOps program held on April 5th was very effective in
driving home this message.
The DFFA is proud to announce that the Dallas
City Council will consider approval of $3.1 million for the
total replacement of ALL DFD SCBAs at the May 14, 2008
Council Meeting.
Council will also consider approval of
$475,000 for the purchase of 45 new Thermal Imaging Cameras at
the May 14 meeting. This purchase would allow all fire apparatus
to have a camera as part of their inventory. The motion for the
Thermal Imagers came unanimously from the Public Safety
Committee on April 7, 2008.
The consideration by Council on May 14th will be agenda items
#8 and #9, respectively.
