Memo about the Retro Paychecks
7/9/09
The HR folks and payroll are working to make programming changes to get all DFD Uniformed OT payed at the time and a half rate. Remember that any sick time use will not count as hours worked and will disqualify you for time and a half in the particular pay cycle.
All those who have worked OT since the bill was signed into law should receive any half time owed when the programming changes are made. Pay attention to your particular situation and we will keep you posted. At this time we have no timeline for when the payroll programming changes will be completed. Coming soon to a fire station near you!!

The DFD Overtime Legislation that the DFFA and the TSAFF worked to get through the legislative process was signed into law by Texas Governor Rick Perry late Friday, June 19.
We will work now to get the administrative changes necessary to make sure that all OT worked by DFD members will be at the time and 1/2 rate.
Those who have worked OT beginning 6/20/09 should be entitled to the 1/2 time and we will work to get that corrected for you.
What has your union done for you lately??? Read the above again!! It wasn't magic that got that legislation through the maze and to the Governors desk.
Thank you to all DFFA Members for their continued support!!!
HOUSE BILL 1146
8/16/09
We have continued to check with Payroll and HR as to the status of DFD Overtime. Payroll says that they are waiting on programming changes that are needed to pay OT as the new legislation dictates.
Please make sure to keep track of your OT and any half time that you may be owed since June 20. Much of DFD OT is already paid at time and a half, as the current programming figures your time on a 28-day cycle.
Monitor your hours!! We will stay on top of the programming change.

The DFD OT Bill that was passed by the Texas Legislature on June 19 is still not in effect due to the lack of the required programming.
A meeting was held on August 31 with payroll about the status of the OT. In attendance were D.D. Pierce, Robert Russ, and Deputy Chief Tod Gilam.
The city is having to outsource the programming needs to a private company and they are working on it. The programming should be able to be tested soon but there is not a hard date for the rollout as of yet.
Payroll assures us that they will go back and pick up any 1/2 time that is owed members since the law went in effect on June 19.
Once the programming is complete, OT will still be paid on a 28-day cycle for those members assigned to Operations. What that means is that you will still get the straight time on the next check after you work OT, but if it falls in the middle of the 28-day cycle, you will not get the remaining half time until it is confirmed that you qualify for the whole cycle.
Staff members will be paid each pay period if your OT qualifies.
Please pay attention to your personal situation, especially as it relates to OT worked since the passage of the legislation.
We will keep you updated.
